The West Berks Mission District (WBMD) is a coalition of the 45 Lutheran congregations located in the western portion of Berks County, and
including Reading.

About Us

In 1972, GRAIL (Greater Reading Area Involved Lutherans) was formed, initially comprised of about a dozen congregations in and near Reading.

In 1988 when the ELCA and a newly constituted Northeastern PA Synod came into existence, the West Berks Mission District was formed, incorporating the mission and congregations of the former GRAIL.

To the best of our knowledge, the West Berks Mission District is one of the most organized and active districts/conferences within the Evangelical Lutheran Church
in America.
